little treasures

Happy Monday! Hope that you had a lovely weekend!
On Friday I went to an estate sale where the people had lived for 60 years, and I was hoping there would be some great finds. Well, I did bring home some pretties, but boy were the prices high on most things. It seems that they keep getting higher and higher here in California. How about where you live?
The sweet lady who lived there was a crafter, so I was happy to see all these pretty vintage doilies! Always on the top of my list to get! ;)
I also brought home some lovely vintage lace and cute floral ribbon.
And, these little treasures!
Awhile back a dear friend's mother gave me this sweet vintage appliquéd children's quilt. It has been well loved, and I am thinking it was from the 60's based on the fabrics and colors.
I adore all the face and the balloons are my favorite!
Isn't the kitty just too cute!
A sweet bluebird and a darling little girl with a bow in her hair!
And, oh how cute is this little mouse and his ears!! It is such a sweet quilt and now it will be loved for many more years! And, I was even thinking of how fun it would be to recreate this quilt, or do something similar. So, my thinking cap is on!
Oh, a little side note of something I learned this weekend. As, I was about to soak all the doilies in Oxi Clean, I debated wether I should put that little embroidery piece you see in the first photo in the bowl, because I thought it would bleach out the coloring. Well, I decided to take the chance, and I was right! It bleached out the colors to a white flowers and brown vines. So, I have learned my lesson. How do you soak your vintage embroidered pieces?
Wishing you all a wonderful and crafty week!!

sweet makings

Hello dear friends! Hope that your weekend was wonderful!
It was a busy, but productive one for me, and I am happy to show you two more pretty hexie flowers for my quilt.
The process is going quicker than I thought, so I hope to be able to keep up with two a week. The hardest part so far is choosing the fabrics, but it has been a great way to use up some of my scraps!
I also worked on some vintage tea towels over the weekend. They are getting their finishing touches and will be in the shoppe at the end of the week, and just in time if you are planning on doing some Mother's Day shopping.
I've been playing with a new idea for an item to put in my shoppe with this pretty cross-stitched rose, which I still need to add some leaves and little flowers to. There will be this pink one and an aqua one, so we'll see how my idea turns out!
And, I just finished this sweet vintage embroidery that will be made into a larger project I have stirring in my head. I told you my weekend was busy, but definitely what I like to be busy with! Are you working on any crafty goodness? Well, I am looking forward to catching up with you!

Wishing you a most lovely and creative week!

a flower garden

 Happy Tuesday!
Hope that you had a wonderful weekend and started this week off wonderfully! I did a little treasure hunting over the weekend, and sadly came home empty handed. The stores have been a little bare, so maybe with spring here more things will start to appear!
I have such a soft spot for vintage quilts, and have always adored vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts. There is something about all those hexies together with the beautiful prints, that I love! One day I hope to have a vintage one, but for now I thought it was time to make one of my own.
This will definitely be a labor of love, and I am not sure when it will be done, but I am looking forward to the whole process, and especially choosing the fabrics for each flower. I have made two so far, and plan to do a flower a week. So, hopefully at the beginning of each week I will have one to show you! ;)
Some pretty lavender by my front door that is in full bloom and attracting many sweet bees and darling hummingbirds!
Wishing you a beautiful and creative week!

a vintage recipe and pot holder

Happy Saturday!
Just wanted to stop in to share a sweet vintage recipe and a pot holder I just finished!
One of the vintage pot holder books I have has some tasty and interesting recipes that I thought would be fun to share with you. Each recipe has pot holders to go with them, and these sweet appliquéd fruit ones are so cute! The recipe is for "Iced Fruit Soup", which I have never heard of before, but sounds like the perfect treat for a warm spring or summer day!
Well, I just finished this shabby rose pot holder and adore how sweet it turned out! And, I just listed it in my shoppe! I am also happy to do custom orders, so if you would like this pretty pot holder in your favorite colors, just email me and I would love to customize one for you!
Thank you all so much for your sweet comments on the pink rose and patchwork pot holders! ♥ I have a long list of crochet pot holders to try, so I hope you don't mind seeing them all! ;) I am off to work on a new quilt and embroidery project that I look forward to sharing with you next week!
Wishing you a lovely and crafty weekend!

a lovely finish

Hope that your week has started off wonderfully!
Well, over the weekend I finished the rose pot holder, and love how pretty it came out! I really enjoyed the process of figuring out the pattern and would say the only hard part was trying to count the chain lengths that were partially hidden by stitches, but it all seemed to work out!
The scalloped edging is the sweetest and I really adore the shape! It reminds me of a star, and I even thought this would be cute in red, white, and blue for the 4th of July or in some pretty summery oranges and yellows!
When I started the back, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the same as the vintage pot holder pattern I was following or keep it all cream. I ended up adding the pink, but for next time will only do the cream because I don't really like how you can see it come through the top part, but it is still pretty. And, I have started another one so that I can make some adjustments, and try to write down the pattern. These may even appear in my shoppe as made-to-order, too! ;)
After making those sweet patchwork baby bibs, I was inspired to make a couple new pot holders for my kitchen. I love being able to practice my patchwork skills as I have always struggled with getting the corners to match perfectly, but I think I am finally improving!
I went to some thrift stores and the shelves were quite bare of treasures to bring home. Maybe this week! Do you have any sweet plans or crafty adventures this week?
Wishing you a beautiful and creative week sweet friends!!

a vintage pot holder

 Happy Sweet Day!
Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary. We were so blessed to enjoy such a beautiful, spring day!!
Well, you know that I adore vintage pot holders, and this pretty one I bought awhile back at a flea market, and loved those summery colors!
It has a flat rose in the middle, which is sweet, and I love the circular shape with the scalloped edging!
And, the back is just as sweet! I have been wanting to make one, but in all the vintage crochet pot holder books I have been collecting, I haven't come across the pattern. So, I decided to just read the stitches and figure it out!
And, here it is! Well, at least the top part! I still need to make the back, and crochet the two pieces together, and then it will be finished! Are you working on any crafty goodness?
Wishing you a most lovely and crafty weekend!
